Diagnosing ADHD

Why choose us for an assessment?

Our ADHD assessments are conducted in line with NICE guidelines (NG87) and current best practice. Each assessment is thorough, evidence-based, and person-centred, exploring symptoms, history, and their impact on daily life to provide a comprehensive understanding of ADHD.

(Please note that NICE does not formally accredit individual clinicians or assessment services; however, my assessment approach is designed to align with the standards and recommendations set out in NICE guideline NG87, ensuring a thorough, evidence-based, and person-centred assessment experience.)

What is ADHD ?
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is characterised by symptoms of hyperactivity, inattention and impulsivity that interfere with daily functioning. (Both at home and at school).
A diagnosis is made based on the following:

  • Reports from teachers at school.

  • ADHD Screener (teachers’ section, parents section & child report)

  • Assessment of the child’s mental health and well-being

  • A full developmental and psychiatric history

  • The diagnosis process also involves assessing a child’s needs and their own personal goals

  • QB Check (see below)

  • Please be aware that if you choose to pursue a private ADHD assessment, acceptance of the diagnosis by NHS services cannot be guaranteed. Some NHS trusts and GP practices may not accept private assessments for the purposes of medication prescribing or shared care arrangements, and in some cases may require a further NHS assessment. If medication is being considered, I strongly recommend discussing your local NHS and GP prescribing policies before proceeding with a private assessment.

What is a QB Check?

This is a short 20-minute, computer-based test which will assess your child’s ability to concentrate. It measures attention span, impulsivity and hyperactivity. The QB Check is not a diagnosis, but it can support a diagnosis. The QB Check is about tracking how a child responds and will help gather valuable information to support the overall assessment. It is not a pass or fail test.

Studies have shown that using a QB Check helped with clinical decision making and a more efficient diagnosis, and requires fewer consultations. (NICE guidelines).

In some cases, we may offer to do a QB Check only. This may be suitable if you're unsure about where to start on your ADHD journey. It can give valuable information, but cannot be used alone for a diagnosis.

The cost of a QB Check is £300 (Full ADHD Assessment with QB Check is £1500)
